Yoshiki Kishinuma: His Transition from One of my Most Disliked Characters to my Favorite.
Topic Started: July 21, 2014, 9:27 pm (1,273 Views)
Breaker
Cursed
(This contains spoilers from Corpse Party, Book of Shadows and Tortured Souls)

I know that Yoshiki is one of the most liked characters in Corpse Party and is often on many top 10s and such.

But when I first saw Corpse Party, he was...I really shouldn't have said disliked, but he was one of my most suspicious characters. I didn't trust him and my attention was drawn immediately to him. And this was a case of judging the book by it's cover. The reason I noticed him was because of his physical appearance. Compare him to the rest of the cast. What do you notice about him? What makes him stick out?

The thing for me was that he was blonde. I'm not trying to say anything bad about people who are blonde and such, but he's the one I noticed the very first in the first scene in the classroom. And the way he was drawn, something just seemed suspicious to me. He was the loner of the group and tended to keep to himself.

After they did the charm and ended up in Heavenly Host, literally one of the first things I said was, "The blonde kid messed it up." (I couldn't remember any of their names, at the time). I knew the second before they explained anything, I knew they were in Heavenly Host and that someone had messed up the charm and they were there because of that (I thought it was pretty obvious). I honestly thought he was the antagonist and that he had some plan.

Even when I read his little biography and read how he feels he's being honest, I still didn't trust him. And that's funny, because me and Yoshiki think and feel the exact same way. People often say that I'm rude or arrogant, but I feel as though I'm honestly telling the truth and being straightforward.

When chapter 2 rolled around and I saw Yoshiki, I raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, don't leave him alone with her" I had said out loud when Ms. Yui left the room

But when I saw Yoshiki take Ayumi to find Ms. Yui, I figured he did it to shut her up. But when Ayumi ran off and we saw that flashback with Yoshiki and his gym teacher and Ayumi came in and stopped Yoshiki from assaulting him and Yoshiki had swore that he would protect her, my view changed of him. I respected him for taking the charge.

And I couldn't believe how wrongly I had misjudged him. Another realization came is if you got a wrong ending and Ayumi dies while Yoshiki is draining the pool and his complete grief. And it even grew more when I saw his pep talk with Ayumni after Ms. Yui died. And he grew on me and continue to grow until the point where I was genuinely nervous and cared for his safety.

Like that one scene where Yoshiki and Ayumi go through the incinerator and Sachiko tells them to go back. And later where you find Ayumi alone in that room with dead bodies. I couldn't even explain how bummed out I was, I was honestly afraid that you'd find his dead body in that room. And I was so happy to see him survive. And I couldn't explain how happy I was to see him in Book of Shadows and to see him in Tortured Souls (and how sad I was to see his fate).

That's his transition and now he's my favorite character in Corpse Party and in general. And now it's become somewhat of a running joke with me as whenever I see him I always shout "Woo!" (I can't break myself to stop it). And really, in all honesty, I really would like to be friends and hang out with him, as we both have the same personality.

...And that's it. Just thought I would let you know about my experience with this character, my favorite character.

Mayu's Shige-nii.
I have a suspicion that his fault's (lazy, impolite, delinquent) are considered much worse in Japanese society, which is why he seem's a bit too good to be true in this genre. Of course, I'm assuming a bit here but I've heard of things like this before.

My opinions on him were more, that like,cr*p.Because when I first saw CP,I was like "That Kishinuma,he looks like the kind of motherf**ker I hate.Even in real life." - Then -BOOM!- he was a such a nice guy.

And I was like "Man....I'm dead now."

Ya know what I mean?
Give my head back.

I didn't think he'd be an out and out villain like you did, Breaker, but I never expected he'd turn out to be so heroic.

I also didn't like him at the beginning, but I don't know why
But I liked him really quick, shortly after the beginning of chapter 2

Yoshiki is awesome.

One of the things I wish was canon was the option for Yoshiki to refuse to go back to HH, when the choice is first offered. It locks you into one of the Wrong Ends, since separating Ayumi and Yoshiki leads to both their dooms. But the preceding scenes are really beautiful. First, Yoshiki finally confesses his love to Ayumi in the heat of the moment, which is a great moment of honesty, and of course it's not going to work. Ayumi isn't thinking about romance right now, she's trying to help her friends (and the ghost kids). And she rightfully calls him out for being a selfish, whiny ass.

He's left alone, to sulk over his hurt feelings. He's about to leave, before he sees a vision of Mayu, and then Satoshi, and Miss Yui, and all the others. He is reminded of the times he spent in school, and he comes to realise the people that befriended him; that valued him. And he feels ashamed. He immediately demands, and then pleads tearfully, for the absent Yuki to return. Because he knows he screwed up and he wants to make it right. I love this part because it solidified my own opinion of him. He's the type that doesn't just do things in half-measures, and when he experiences a change like this, it's full and absolute.

His situation is like a lighter mirror to Kizami's. Both are the aloof loners in their respective groups, but whereas Kizami comes to the conclusion that he has no true friends, Yoshiki realises who they are.

You know I stopped reading the BC manga several chapters in because it just wasn't grabbing me, but that's awesome to hear, Siljorfa!
